Japan's greatest monster, Godzilla, departed his homeland and headed for Hollywood, CA to celebrate his 50th birthday! A trio of events were held November 28 & 29, 2004, to mark the occasion. On Sunday, November 28, the 73rd Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade included a Godzilla float. The 28-foot-long float depicted Godzilla looming over a cityscape and venting smoke from his mouth. It included Godzilla Final Wars signs and the 50th anniversary logo. It was quite a sight! Click here (or on one of the images below) for DMI's coverage of the 2004 Hollywood Christmas Parade. |

The festivities climaxed the evening of November 29, with the world premiere of Godzilla Final Wars at the prestigious Grauman's Chinese Theater. GFW is intended to be the final Godzilla film, and it's the first to premiere outside of Godzilla's home country of Japan. (The film opened in Japanese theaters December 4; there is no information yet on a general release in the U.S.) Godzilla himself walked the red carpet at this premiere event. Also in attendance were: Director Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus), producer Shogo Tomiyama, special effects director Eiichi Asada (Godzilla: Tokyo SOS), suit actor Tsutomu Kitagawa (who has portrayed Godzilla in most of the Millennium films), kaiju suit maker Shinichi Wakasa; and GFW stars Masahiro Matsuoka, Rei Kikukawa, and Don Frye. DMI's coverage of this once-in-a-lifetime event is coming soon! | |||||||||||||||
