My husband and I wanted a boxer. We decided to email out to a boxer listserve that we were looking to adopt a boxer. It took a few months but the day finally came that there was a 3 year old female in Ithaca NY that needed to be adopted. We drove to Ithaca (5 1/2 hour drive one way) and took a look at Gabby. She was very skinny and we were told by the owners that she threw up alot. We decided to take her home and see if we could fatten her up and cure her of the vomitting. Our first step was to take her to the vet where we were told that her electrolytes were all out of whack. We were also told that she should be at least 60 lbs. instead of her 47 lbs. It took 2 weeks but the vomitting stopped and she started to gain weight. We had never owned a boxer before and didn't realize that the energy level of a boxer doesn't quiet down but she is a wonderful girl and we were happy to adapt to her ways. Gabby has been with us for 4 years now and she is the love of our lives. You too can make a difference if you are looking for a boxer. Instead of getting a boxer from a breeder check into boxer rescue groups. There are rescue's in almost every state.
