Nightwing #46
The Hunt For Oracle, Part 3: The Dying Hours

Nightwing #46 Writer: Chuck Dixon
Artists: Greg Land (p), Jose Marzan Jr. (i), Patricia Mulvihill and Jamison (c), John Costanza (l)

Plot: Nightwing tangles with a gorilla, some speed demons, and gravity, Black Canary battles a bird, some not-so-speedy daggers, and gravity, and Oracle anchors herself to the planet in a submarine, as Blockbuster's hunt falls into his favour.

If you liked the 1960s Green Hornet show which had lots of action and a guaranteed car chase every episode, you'll love Nightwing #46.

Nah, there's a bunch of women in tight clothing here too, so perhaps a Dukes Of Hazzard parallel would be more apt. Mouse and Giz's chatter in Blockbuster's altered limo, after two issues, finally makes me start to warm up to them as capable hackers.

But if this is supposed to be a hunt, why isn't Oracle continuously on the move? Why decide to situate herself so close to Gotham? As any passionate hunter might tell you, there's no excitement if your quarry just decides to stop running.

Part three of The Hunt For Oracle modestly improves on its predecessor at the expense of panel-time. Greg Land's visuals may captivate your eyes, but the number of splashes in this issue made it read very quickly.

Seeing Nightwing's family come to his aid was a welcome surprise, especially in a nice, family car like their unimposing minivan. But where these biker dudes come from, and who they are, was never really explained. They just appear.

Babs turns up a neat wheelchair emoticon, and the location of all her passwords was similarly ingenious. Though she does prepare her final email, she doesn't seem particularly afraid that she's gonna get caught.

Apparently, purple is the hot colour among female drivers in the DCU. In the Batman/Huntress: Cry For Blood miniseries, Helena's got a violet Lamborghini for herself, and in this issue of Nightwing, Dinah's zoom zoom zooming along in a rented mauve Porscia Boxster S. The Purple Lamb and the Purple Boxcar can turn heads, while the Huntress and Black Canary crush them.

Next stop: it's the The Hunt For Red October, as Blockbuster and crew locate Babs in her offshore investment.
