Coping with Larkin, Larking with Cope

I

Philip Larkin used to be
the source of all my poetry;
he was bitter, had no hope,
now I cling to Wendy Cope.

II

I used to think that Philip Lark-
in all he said- mixed light with dark,
then when I first read Wendy Cope
I realized light could blend with hope.
