Reenacting the Black Hawk War;

Black Hawk War reenacting is a fairly recent evolution in living history. There various, though small groups of people who reenact  this time period located in the Illinois and Wisconsin state areas.

The Black Hawk War Society, a "living history organization" was formed in October of 2002 with the idea of recreating a crucial event in Illinois history.

Questions and answers;

I'm interested in finding out more about the Black Hawk War Society!
If your interested, simply go to the email link on the main page, and send us an email. We'll try to answer any questions that you might have. But in the mean time, here is some basic information!

How much does it cost to get into reenacting?
Cost of starting up in any type of reenacting can have an initial shock investment. There are different methods of obtaining period clothing, if you are somewhat talented with a needle and thread, you can purchase patterns and make your own clothing, or there are many dealers who sell historically correct clothing that you can purchase. But if you are portraying a soldier or militiman, the most expensive part of your historical impression would be the weapon or musket! The price of a flintlock type musket can range from $400.00 to $600.00 dollars.

What type of impressions are welcome in Captain Highsmiths Company?

Capt. Highsmiths Company is a family oriented organization, we are looking for folks who do 1830's civilian, militia and woodland indian impressions!

What type of impression(s) are allowed in the 5th U.S. regulars?;
The 5th U.S. is also a family oriented organization dedicated to the Black Hawk War period of 1832.
This type of impression requires a stricter adherence to military clothing, accounterments and customs. For futher information contact Tom Steinkamp via the Black War Society discussion board.
