Hiram M. Bushnell was born in Trumbull County, Ohio, April 14, 1829. He came west with his parents when 15 years of age and settled in the town of Harrison. He was united in marriage to Lenice Robbins Dec 28, 1855. She departed this life in 1862 leaving three motherless children, Newton Bushnell and Mrs. Anna Hake of Platteville and Chester of Elko, Nevada. In the year 1863 he married Jane L. Norris. From this union were born two children, Lenora hake of Cornell, Wis. and Bertha, his youngest daughter, who has been his companion and housekeeper since the death of her mother in 1894.

He was converted in 1849 and has lived a Christian life ever since and departed this life to join his loved ones in a better land Jan 22, 1920. If he had lived until April 14 he would have been 91.

Mr. Bushnell was a veteran of the Civil War, enlisting in Co. K, 44th Wis. and served until the close of the war. He was an honorable member of the G.A.R. of this city.

Mr. Bushnell was well and favorably known by his many friends living in or near Platteville for 75 years. His many friends will miss the genial smile and hearty hand clasp but his was a life well spent and we feel that he was ready to enter into his reward. His lasrt illness was of a few dasys duration. Less than two weeks ago he met his comrades and friends at installation of the Post. He passed peacefully away as he had lived.
