Mildred Dunn and George Howard Phillips married 15 Jun 1935 at Brookings,Brookings, SD. They had the following children:
1. William George Phillips was born 29 Aug 1937 at Emporia, KS.
2. James Merton Phillips was born 30 Dec 1942 at Emporia,KS.
Mildred Dunn was born 20 Mar 1911 on the farm two and a half miles west of Flandreau, Moody, SD. She was her "daddy's girl", a tomboy who helped with the work on the farm and was profiient on horse back. Mildred attended the local schools and was valedictorian of her senior high school graduating class. After graduation from high school she attended South Dakota State College at Brookings, Brookings, SD majoring in Home Economics.
After two years of college the depression was on, accompanied by drought, dust storms, and grasshoppers. I'm told the dust blew so thick one could only see a few feet and the grasshoppers were so thick they would blot out the sun. The result of these events was that there was no money to continue her education. She began working in the Extension Department at the college, and on 15 Jun 1935 she married my dad, George Howard Phillips,at the Methodist Church in Brookings.
