Timeline for Baby Boy Strand AKA Karle Albert Reinke and Thora Strand and their families

1880-On August 28, Thora Strand born to Bernt Didrik Danielsen and Anna Margreta Peterson in Tjotta, Helgeland, Norway.

1883-In April, Edward William Dailey was born in Moody County, Dakota Territory to William Dailey and Amelia Malder. He was their second child.

1902-On May 13, Richard Strand from Tjotta, Norway arrived in the port of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on the ship "Mandfort" and shortly moved to 316 Minnesota St., Crookston, Polk County, Minnesota, (his Declaration of Intent).

1903-Thora immigrated to the United States, (with her brother Thomas? still need to Document this)

1903-Thora lived in Flandreau, Moody County, South Dakota working to help pay off her passage to America. (Thora's obituary)

1903-Edward is a student at the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture.

1905-The Will Dailey family is enumerated in the South Dakota state census as living in Lone Rock Twp., Moody County. Their land is described as Section 32, Twp. 106, and Range 47. Those living in the household include Will Dailey, 49 yo (card #171), Mrs. Will Dailey, 46 yo (card #172), Robert Dailey, 22 yo, (card #173), Lawrence Dailey, 21 yo (card #174), Eddie Dailey, 22 yo (card #175) and Thora Strand, 24 yo (card #176.) [Tora's occupation is listed as "house work" and the card says she's lived in the United States for 2 years, can read and write, and was born in Norway.]

1905-On February 6 in St. Paul MN, a baby boy was born to Thora Strand (born in Norway) and Edward Dailey (born in SD). The attending physician was Dr. Jennette M. McLaren of St. Paul. The baby was born at 669 Jackson St. in St. Paul. [Would like to find out who was living there in 1905.] The birth record originally said the baby was "Illeg" but that was crossed out. Not sure why or what that meant.

1906-In March Otto and Mary Mauer Reinke adopted a baby boy from the Children's Home Society of Minnesota and adoption agency still in existence in St. Paul MN. Adoption papers list the birth mother as Thora Strand. Baby's birth date was listed in these papers as Jan. 31, 1905 at St. Paul, MN. However, the original birth place had been typed in as Pipestone, MN, but the place was corrected to be St. Paul by hand. The Reinkes name their baby Karle Albert Reinke.

1906-Miss Thora Strand is listed as living at 316 Minnesota St., Crookston MN in the Crookston City Directory.

1910-Thora Strand is listed in the Federal Census as living at 316 Minnesota St., Crookston, MN.

1910-On October 13, 1910 Thora married Conrad Johnson at United Norwegian Lutheran Church in Crookston. (Polk Co. MN Courthouse records; Book N, p. 336.)

1910-William Dailey's family is listed as still living in Lone Rock Twp., Moody County. Those in the household include William, Minnie, Robert, Lawrence, Theodore Malder (widowed 50 yo bro-in-law from Canada) and 12 yo nephew Frank Malder. Edward Dailey is not listed in Lone Rock and his uncle James Dailey and family are also gone from Lone Rock Twp. William Dunn, a relative, told me that Edward went to live in Canada.

1911-Thora and Conrad's daughter Helen Alvina is born on July 18.

1912-Edward Dailey marries Margaret Miller in Aberdeen, Canada on July 24.

He and Margaret have four children and eventually this family moves back to Flandreau, Moody County, SD.

1913-Thora and Conrad's 2nd daughter Cora Teresa is born on May 30 in Crookston.

1920-Edward Dailey (36 yo), his wife Margaret (36 yo), and children William Edward (7 yo), Myrtle C. (5 yo), Howard (2 1/2 yo) and Warren 9mos old) are living again in Lone Rock Twp. And their neighbors include the Lawrence Dailey family, the George Dailey family and Will (64 yo) and Minnie Dailey (61yo).

1920-Edward Dailey dies in South Dakota. (May have been influenza?)

1921-Conrad Johnson dies on March 28.

1922-Karle Reinke graduates from Fairfax High School.

Abt. 1929-Karle Albert Reinke graduates from Hamline University in St. Paul.

1929-Karle moves to Faribault MN and begins teaching HS biology where he taught continuously for 34 years.

1930-Karle marries Dorcas Marion Mekkelsen on August, 14.

1931-Janet Mary Reinke was born May 8.

1934-Gretchen Lou Reinke born April 25.

1935-Thora marries Albert Arness on March 16.

1936-Albert Arness commits suicide.

1940-Karle is honored at the Junior Chamber of Commerce's Gold Key dinner as one of the two Faribault residents who had "done the most for their community in the year 1939." He was cited as a versatile and unselfish contributor to Faribault and his activities included establishing a HS Wild Life Club for boys, working to preserve Nerstrand Woods, participating in scouting, church, musical and educational activities. He was also general chairman of the Kryll Symphony concert held that year and a board member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce.

1951-Thora Strand dies on Jan. 19, 1951 following a stroke.

1962-Dorcas Reinke died on May 22 of a staph infection after a minor surgery.

1963-Karle Albert dies on August 3, 1963 after suffering a heart attack.
