The Hidden Enemy of Our Environment


Subject: AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE, ACCOUNTING, MATHEMATICS, AND SOCIAL STUDIES

Grade Level: SS 1 - 2

Introduction:

The very survival of life on the planet Earth depends on the conduciveness of the environment. However human beings in their poise to create worth for survival and to make life easier, turn to cause negative impact on the environment and subsequently lives. The many various ways by which the environment may be degraded include: 1. Timber felling 2. Mineral mining 3. Oil Exploration and drilling 4. Construction of infrastructure 5. Agriculture, and 6. Other life enhancing technologies such as use of vehicles, refrigerators, and perfumes. These activities themselves degrade the environment and become worse when they are done without control. The degradation may cause sicknesses and diseases, low productivity, destruction plants and animals, water shortage, termination of life and other social cost. It therefore beholds on all to be aware of these factors that may intend degrade the environment and find possible solutions to them.

Project Goals:
  • 1. By the end of the lesson, students should be able to define and explain environmental degradation
  • 2. By the end of the lesson, students should be able to identify factors that cause environmental degradation
  • 3. By the end of the lesson, students should be able to search through the net and come out with suggested alternative to the practices that degrade the environment
  • 4. By the end of the lesson, students should be able to develop strategies that will create awareness to other young people
  • 5. By the end of the lesson, students should be able to collaborate with other students and propose solutions to problems
