Text Box: 34 YEARS AND GOING STRONG
It’s hard to believe that the American Professional Football League opened its 34th season this week. What began as an APBA mail league based in Loveland, Colorado has endured as one of the longest surviving football simulation leagues going from board play to PC play without a decrease in popularity or enthusiasm among its members.
The APFL has gone through five commissioners during its history. Bob Moore, Stu McCorkindale, Mike Kane, TK Kane, and Felix Giordano all have served as commissioner for varying lengths of service.
This season, the Florida Sharks defend their 2006 APFL League Championship. With a solid running attack, they could very well repeat although injuries could be an obstacle.
Text Box: BECKLEY WINS 30-7
In dramatic fashion, one of the leagues top teams laid claim to the lead in the AFC East. The Beckley Punishers defeated the Fairfield Drillers 30-7 as running back Frank Gore led the way with 223 yards on 20 carries.
That took the heat off a shaky performance by Tony Romo who only completed 11 of 21 passes for 133 yards, one score and two interceptions. With both teams turning the ball over three times each, it was Gore’s running that was a difference maker. With high hopes going into the season, Fairfield will regroup and look to dispose of the Chicago Blitz at home next week.
And to top it off, things don’t get any easier for Beckley next week either as they host the Brooklyn Giants, 26-13 winners over the Jersey Jays.

Text Box: Philadelphia 24 Farmington 10 -
Farmington dominates in the yardage department but loses where it counts most,
on the scoreboard. Philadephia intercepts 2 passes for TDs (69 & 55 yards) and
returns a fumble 81 yards for another and beats a bewildered Chiefs' squad, 24-10.
Text Box: Brooklyn 26 Jersey 13 -
Brooklyn wins home opener 26-13. Green and Addai both go over 100 yds for Brooklyn. 4 Graham FG’s. Westbrook gains 120 yds in 20 carries for Jersey.
What many thought would be a defensive contest ended as anything but. Florida jump to an early 7-0 on a play
