Following are some information of how to spot "non authentic" scarves. Please note that they are not exclusive . Trust your instinct. When you need to be 100% sure, walk away from the auction and go to the Hermes boutique.

1.
The second E in Hermes: (e with downward accent mark on top)(a different letter in French from a plain e or an e-aigue ()). If that second e appears without its accent mark, that scarf is probably a non authentic; UNLESS the scarf is an old issued or special edition (for examples: Neige d'Antan in 1989 or LES ROBES and earlier JUMPING).  PLEASE NOTE that fake scarves sometimes include the grave.   Older designs do not follow rule. If you are not sure, let it go.

2.
FABRIC TAG - if there is one:  must be written in French, or in both French and English.  If any other language appears on the tag, it's not authentic Hermes .  ALL Hermes scarves are made in France.  If the terms "reine seide" or "seta" appear on the tag, the scarf is not authentic.

3.
HEMS: always hand-rolled toward the front of the scarf and hand-sewn in thread that matches the color perfectly.  If the tag is sewn on in not-matching color thread (typically black or white), the scarf is not authentic.

4.
SIZE: 90 cm x 90 cm, 35 x by 35 .  Repeated or rough cleaning can cause the size to change a little. YET, if a scarf appears new and the size is different, be careful.  Some of the vintage Hermes scarves have smaller size, but most of the modern scarves are 35 1/2" X 35 1/2". Non authentic scarves, more often than not, are of the recent years and not vintage designs.

5.
Title, Hermes logo & artists signature: Without these signs, be careful. Vintage scarves are exception. Older designs don't entice cypies.

There are noisemakers and there are doers.  Don't associate yourself with people who speak ill of others. Just protect yourself by gather the facts and make your own decisions. Remember that it is easy to make acusation. When you are not sure - just walk away.
There are seven sins in the world: Wealth without work, Pleasure without conscience, Knowledge without character, Commerce without morality, Science without humanity, Worship without sacrifice and politics without principle.
Mahatma Gandhi - Indian ascetic & nationalist leader (1869 - 1948)
The eighth sin is to speak or think badly about others without reason (Thou shall not bear false witness).  Life is too short to be an evil doer or speaker.  When not sure - walk away

"Who steals my purse steals trash; ...
But he that filches from me my good name
Robs me of that which not enriches him,
And makes me poor indeed."
