A GOAN CULTURAL DAY


The Goan Cultural Day was held on the 1st of August 1999 at Woodgreen, North London. This is the major annual Goan Festival that takes place in the UK where people from all over the UK come and enjoy a day of fun and entertainment.

The Goan Musical Society was invited by the UK Goan Associations Organizing Committee to perform at the festival.
GMS decided to form a small group of singers and musicians (most of these members of the GMS Ensemble) to perform specially for the event. So, the ‘Friends of the GMS’ started off with a 15 minute performance of selected Konkani intrumental pieces performed by accoustic intruments only. The singing group then joined the musicians to perform a Portuguese medley in polyphonic style. The programme was well received by the audience.
