Time Flies
"Time Flies" was conjured up from images I have recalled from my extensive back woods expeditions across western Canada and northern USA. I wanted to capture the feel of abandonment which occured during the great depression and the dust bowl. The movie "Grapes of Wrath" set the tone for this image and what I encountered in my travels, provided the props. The old barn , sneaking over the rise was photographed in Dugald, Manitoba. The outhouse was like most I remember as a kid. The house is the reverse image of one I encountered in western Minnesota. The 1931 Chevrolet and the 1920's Case, steel wheeled tractor were together on Al Nyen's farm at Gull Lake, Saskatchewan. The two ravens, which add an element of intrigue to the painting, were photographed at the Sudbury dump. There are always plenty of ravens to photograph at any dump. Alltogether, the elements capture the feel of the period and bring you back in time to recall the hard times.
