This vehicle superseded the venerable Sherman BARV of second world war vintage. The prototype (06ZR24) was delivered in 1957, the first production model in 1960 and a subsequent order of 12 in 1963. the vehicle weighs approximately 40 ton and can achieve speeds on dry land in excess of 30 mph.
