Its that time of year again, the days
are getting shorter, the wind a little more chilly and the weather
is getting bleaker: so bring on a charity Christmas bike ride. The
fourth Great Welsh Winter Ride will this year return to its home,
'the principality of Wales’. With eight riders and a support team
already committed, plans are beginning to be made and the
sponsorship is starting to role in. So lets get to it and help raise
some big bucks for Help The Aged and the Teenage Cancer
Trust. Help the aged is a very very worthy cause, particularly
in light of the recent cyclone in Bangladesh where current estimates
suggest that 15000 people have died. The world needs to now help the
thousands of people, many elderly who are left behind, homeless,
hungry and in danger of disease.

Over three gruesome
years the GWWR massive have now raised over £10k for charity. In
2004 the bleak hills of Wales were rode to raise money for Macmillan
Cancer whilst in 2005 temperatures as low as -7°C were
battled with to raise cash for Unicef and Oxfam. Then in 2006
records were broken and the GWWR raised a massive £5000 for the
British Heart Foundation
by cycling from Bristol to Lands End in the cold and wet winter
weather.
The Great Welsh Winter Ride
is a group of friends, mostly originating from Wales, and a few
scattered all around the UK (and now the world) cycling long
distances to raise money for charity. From meagre beginnings in 2004
when they cycled the length of Wales they have now established a
truly annual event. Last year was an epic event, we cycled
from Bristol to Lands End battling headwinds and rain for four days
solid. This year we plan to top the events of 2006 by cycling from
Cardiff all the way up through Wales ending in Caernarfon. Rumour
has it a splinter group based in Australia is also planning a two
day sun blistering event near Sydney.
