Swiss Yachtsman:
|
A contemptuous term in modern colloquial Kiwi parlance, almost equivalent to the word "quisling" in Norway. | |
Several champion New Zealand yachties joined the Swiss Consortium, after being paid huge sums. The mercenaries then sailed against their fellow-countrymen, winning the America's Cup for the enemy team. Consequently, to be called a "Swiss yachtsman" is akin to being described as the lowest traitor that can be imagined: a person deserving to be shunned from polite society in New Zealand. |
