Background:

After the end of the One Year War, the Federation was now focusing on rebuilding the damage caused by the war with Zeon. In 0080, the Federation commissioned the first RGM-80 Engineering GM. The Engineering GM was able to repair damaged Mobile Units and buildings in very short time, and with its Structural Integrity Scanner the engineer piloting it was able to figure out how badly damaged a unit was in order to determine whether it was worth repairing. Although it wasn’t intended for combat, it was still able to use a Beam Sabre and 90mm Machinegun. Its Laser Torch could also be used as a weapon in case of emergency. There was also a civilian model produced, which was sold to civilians as an effort to generate some extra funds, although the civilian model was not able to use any weapons.
