| GUTTER QUEENS - BORN TO BE CHEAP DEMO I got sent a demo tape (yeah I didn't think people still used them either) recently by a Glam Rock band from Switzerland called the GUTTER QUEENS (previously called Juvenile Crime) which after one listen, it turned out to be pretty damn good. The tape opened up with a cover Bored!'s classic tribute to Suzi Quatro, *Little Suzy* which they do with ease. It's a great song and probably one of the best singles ever to come from an Aussie band. From there the songs took a dive into total New York Dolls' rock territory only this time with a more updated sound. I really got into this band, they have a 7" coming out soon on Zurich label, Sheep Records. To show that Glam Rock is still riding high, 1,500 people showed up to one of their shows in Italy's Auditorium Flog. Now if that isn't showing potential for Glam Rock to make a come back, I don't know what it is. The tape I was sent was their 9 track BORN TO BE CHEAP demo which is sold out. It originally appeared on CD but I unfortunately got into them too late and could only get my mits on a tape. Long Gone Loser # 4, November 2000 (Australia) |
