My Eagle

He started out Scouting in a Tiger Cub shirt.

That was just the beginning of the rain and the dirt.

After a year of good friends and experiences all new,

It was time to wear a new shirt of Cub Scouting blue.

He worked his way up and claimed as his right.

Cub Scout's highest honor, the Arrow of Light.

Then he joined 750 and a new chapter began

In that long, hard journey from boyhood to man.

He was taught by troop leaders each skill he would need,

And in his own turn he did teach and did lead.

He worked with four Scoutmasters who expected his best,

And as Senior Patrol Leader he got almost no rest.

He was elected by others to the Order of the Arrow.

And hiked across Philmont on trails steep and narrow,

Yes, he earned merit badges and rank upon rank

Helped by to many to remember, to many to thank.

But as the time grew short, we all became tense

And several of us wondered if he'd miss his chance.

But he made it in time and the paperwork's all legal,

And his name's been engraved on the "Wall of the Eagles"

No, he's not the first Eagle of whom I am proud,

For I've helped several others in their reach for the cloud.

But as he stands here to receive this honor so regal

It's just a little more special, for this one's my, golden Eagle.
