THE RIGHTEOUS READER
your handy-dandy guide to the hurdy-gurdy world of ani difranco brought to you by your gals at Righteous
Babe Records October 2, 1997

Oh, mercy, no gratuitous Dylan references this time, cuz there's been so much goin' on here at RBR Central
lately that we're gonna dispense with the chatty tone you have come to expect from The Report and just give
you the facts:

MEMORIES OF THE BIG WEEKEND, SEPT. 18 - 21
Thursday: Ani plays "Gravel" on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." Conan plugs the forthcoming "Live from
6A: Great Musical Performances from 'Late Night,'" in stores Oct. 7 from Mercury, featuring "Shameless."

Friday: Ani plays to 6000 screaming fans in New York's Central Park (and countless thousands outside,
enough to tear down a fence during the encore).

Saturday: Ani takes a nap, then flies back to Buffalo.

Sunday: Ani performs and takes calls (live) on the sydicated radio program "Modern Rock Live." Moments
later, she chats for 60 of MTV's "120 Minutes" with host Matt Pinfield (on tape).

WHAT ELSE HAS HAPPENED SINCE LAST WE SPOKE
* Sales for "Living in Clip" now over 100,000.
* The cover of Vol. 1, No. 1 of The Educated Guess, latest retail trade mag from The Album Network.
* Countless references in the August 25 special Music issue of The Nation, required reading for all my
people, right here, right now. (D'ya know what I mean?)
* Profile in "21 for the 21st: Leaders for the Next Century" in the 25th anniverary issue of Ms. (Sept./Oct.
97).
* "In or Out" in rotation on The Box, the nationwide caller-request video channel.
* The track "Searching for America" on Janis Ian's new album The Hunger, produced by Ani, who also
provides vocals, bass, and samples (while Andy S. plays drums).

WHAT'S GOING ON RIGHT NOW
* Look for Ani in the cover story on Bob Dylan in the October 6 Newsweek. Sez she: "When things
become so huge, they're like furniture. They're just there." (Hey, where'd that sofa come from?)
* Speaking of Mr. D, he and Ms. D are playing a little joint outside London called the Wembley Arena,
Oct. 5. * "Universal Buzz Radio: Live from Earth" is broadcasting Ani's spring '97 concert from Rochester,
NY on 19 stations large and small around the country. No set time from station to station, and we have no
station list, either, so cross your fingers that this thing hits your town.
* Thanks to DJ Matthew J, U-Mass station WMUA now has an "Ani on the Hour" show: a different
DiFranco ditty every Friday at 7 and 8 p.m. (Is there any way the FCC make this mandatory at all stations?)

THAT WHICH IS YET TO COME
* "Joyful Girl: Peace & Love Mix" will be on the soundtrack album for the forthcoming Hollywood
blockbuster "The Jackal" (but not in the movie). * Future mag covers: The Advocate (Nov. 6), Blue Jean
(t.b.a.), Guns & Ammo (just joking). * It's a ways away, but set your VCR now for the May 10, 1998
episode of the Fox tv series "King of the Hill," entitled "Peggy's Turtle Song," featuring a cameo by a certain
hot new singer-songwriter as Mrs. Hill's guitar teacher.
