ANI DIFRANCO AND MACEO PARKER JOIN FORCES TO FUNK AND FOLK YOU UP ON
"THE F-WORD TOUR," SUMMER '99

Let us now praise the sixth letter of the alphabet-home of "fun," "fireworks," "fearless," "ferocious,"
"feminist," "fascination," "fists of fury," and everyone's favorite, "flavin mononucleotide." This summer,
however, the F-words on the front burner will be a couple of firestarters, when the Mistress of Folk meets
the Master of Funk.
That's right, fly-boys and fly-girls: free-spirited singer/guitarist/songwriter/ringmaster Ani DiFranco is calling
upon famed saxophonist-turned-bandleader Maceo Parker to join her on The F-Word Tour, a feisty frolic
across the highways and byways of North America this June and July.
While no one can ever fathom exactly what's coming next from The Little Folksinger and her fellow
musicians (bass player Jason Mercer, keyboardist Julie Wolf, and drummer Daren Hahn), it's safe to expect
they'll be furnishing a few songs from Ani's latest solo album, "Up Up Up Up Up Up," plus a few new
versions of old faves from her fast-growing back catalog, and a few so fresh they can't even be found on
albums yet.
As if Ani's fast fingerwork weren't fiery enough on its own, the heat level in the outdoor ampitheaters on the
tour will surely be pumped up even further by Ani's special guest, Maceo Parker. Best known for his sax
playing in the classic bands of both James Brown and George Clinton, Parker has developed quite the
following as a frontman himself. Ani says, "I think I've seen Maceo live more often than anyone else. He's
one of my ultimate heroes . he's just amazing." Indeed, when asked to name her all-time favorite live album,
DiFranco is quick to fawn over Parker's 1992 release, "Life on Planet Groove." (For further fun factoids,

The festivities don't stop there, either-fans will also be able to feast on the skills of a pair of acclaimed female
DJs for some freestyle frenzy at each show. DJ Courtney will be on deck for the June shows, and DJ
Tamara will handle the flip side in July. In short, a funky-fresh feeling shall be felt by all.
