he was choossen as the leader of tibet in 1940, with residens in potala-convent. in 1959 he had to flea away from the chinenes to india, under a sandstorm, where he still lead the tibetans in exsile.

UN has after his appeal carrie out several resolutions against china, about that tibets independens should be respected.

in 1989 the dalai lama recieved the nobel peaceprize for his struggle for to liberate tibet.

he must be considered one of the most persistent figures in the struggle against oppression.

the movie - seven years in tibet - is among other things about chinas try to take over control in tibet. and the growing resistans against the chinese oppression. and a young dalai lama who gets crowned.
