| The Hereford district is one of 8 districts within the Hereford Diocesan Guild of Bellringers. You can see the other districts on the map above. Although we are not the largest in terms of area, we do have the most towers, 37 in all. Most of our towers have 6 bells, but we do have some 8's, a few 5's, a couple of 4's and Hereford Cathedral with it's majestic ring of 10, that can also be quite challenging. |
| What is bellringing? Bellringing is a fantastic hobby, which involves being part of a team and providing a service to the church. It's mentally stimulating as you're alway learning something new and it's a great social activity. Once you've learned the basic technique you will always be made welcome when visiting other towers. Why are bells rung? Bells are rung for many reasons; church services, weddings, special occasions, practice and for pleasure. Can I be a ringer? All sorts of people are ringers. Many people think that you have to be musical or mathematical to be able to ring, but this isn't true. You don't need to be really strong either, it's more about technique than stength. If you are interested in learning to ring you can contact your local tower or ask one of our officers, who will be able to point you in the right direction. |
