Project Info

Another RICOH module and another retro uC from 1990s... This is H8/300 uC with external memory. Interesting is huge addressing space of this CPU, 16MB, but here only 64KB has been used. But, what is nice, DIP32 memory is option on the PCB and 20 address lines routed! RICOH service manual for this device can be found in the net but as always thats only block diagrams like this:

So, again I had to make black job with analyzing this circuit path-by-path... what was still only partly accomplished (see [2]). I dowloaded original code, decompiled it and analyzed. It was interesting to me to see how to program this "ancient" CPU. I also wrote some my own software to train this "ancient" assembler. For this reason I have wrote simple macroassembler for H8/300. It works but probably still have some bugs. I have hazy plans to develope system on this uC, but probably I will desolder at least one CPU and transfer it to my own project PCB. Currently I have no time for it, but I will surely return to this project.
