The Norris Family
of Redford Township, Michigan
The Norris Family Genealogy as submitted to Dearborn Heights John F Kennedy Public Library (located on Van Born west of Telegraph Road). There is no name listed in the Norris file, as to who submitted the file, but it does say "compiled August of 1937".
The information below has NOT been verified by me. It is to be used as a guide for other Norris family researchers, in hopes that it will be of some use.

George Norris the son of Robert and Desire W. (Rhycough) Norris was born November 22, 1800 in Geneva, New York. He married Elizabeth Harris, the daughter of Silas and Lettecia (Cross) Harris on October 19, 1826 in Ontario County, New York. Elizabeth was born January 8, 1806 in Phelps, Ontario County, New York.

George and Elizabeth Norris had eight children:

1. Mary Elizabeth Norris, who was born September 8, 1827 in Phelps, Ontario County, NY. She married William Curtis Griffin and died February 3, 1910, in Lansing, Michigan. She is buried at the Palo Cemetery, in Palo, Michigan.
2. Prudence F. Norris was born June 7, 1829 in Redford Township, Michigan. She married Porter P. Houk and died February 23, 1854 in New Baltimore, Michigan. She is buried at the Milton Cemetery, near the city of New Baltimore.

* this would indicate that the Norris Family arrived in the Redford Township area around 1829. *

3. Nancy C. Norris was born June 1, 1831 in Redford Township, Michigan. She married first, Abram S. Devoll and second to William Burleigh. She died May 6, 1909 in Alpena, Michigan and is buried at Evergreen Cemetery, in Alpena.
4. Sarah Ann Norris was born August 20, 1834 in Redford Township, Michigan. She married John Mason Lee and died December 13, 1917 in Redford, Michigan. She is buried at the Grand Lawn Cemetery, in Redford.
5. James Henry Norris was born July 31, 1839 in Redford Township, Michigan. He died June 2, 1841 in Redford and his buried at the Redford Cemetery.
6. Phebe Jane Norris was born April 24, 1842 in Redford Township, Michigan. She married first to John Osborn and second to John Hellenfelz. She died November 12, 1905 in Monroe County, Michigan. She is buried at the Evergreen Cemetery, near the city of Waltz, Michigan.
7. Charlotte Nacisia Norris was born September 22, 1844 in Redford Township, Michigan. She died May 14, 1859 in Redford, and is buried at the Redford Cemetery.
8. Silas Norris (Ensign) was born March 1, 1849 in Redford Township, Michigan. He married Florence Harriet Chillson in Redford. He died June 16, 1932 in Howell, Michigan and is buried at Grand Lawn Cemetery, in Redford.

Silas and Florence Norris had 5 children:


1. Almeron Silas Norris born February 12, 1873 in Redford Michigan. He married first to Martha Ervilla Kirbyson on January 17, 1900 in Detroit, Michigan, by Rev. J.H. Herbener. Martha was the daughter of George and Mary (Hayden) Kirbyson, and was born November 27, 1879 in Novi, Michigan. She died May 15, 1902 in Redford Michigan and is buried at the Redford Cemetery. Almeron married second to Alice Emme Lapham on April 6, 1904 in Plymouth, Michigan by Rev. William O. Stovall. Alice was born July 1, 1877 in Plymouth, Michigan and was the daughter of Andrew Jackson and Esther (Hall) Lapham. Almeron and his first wife, Martha (Kirbyson) had only one child:

1. Marguerite Lois Norris was who born April 21, 1902 in Redford, Michigan. She married December 12, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan by Rev William T. Jaquese to Howard E. Klett, who was born January 17, 1901 in Kalmazoo, Michigan. He was the son of Fred C. and Lillie M (Cumming) Klett. They divorced December 16, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan. She married second to Oliver Potein, who was born March 5, 1901 and died in 1943. She married a third time to Dallas McNeill.

Almeron and Alice (Lapham), his second wife had three children:
2. Andrew Silas Norris born June 11, 1905 in Detroit, Michigan. He married November 14, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan by Rev. E. Schildt to Martha Mina Schneider. Martha is the daughter of Ernest and Bertah (Jahn) Schneider, and was born April 19, 1913 in Linwood, Wisconsin. Andrew and Martha Norris had one child:

1. Patricia Ann Norris born December 21, 1931 in Buffalo, New York.

3. Harry Clifford Norris born July 30, 1907 in Detroit, Michigan. He married March 8, 1930 in Toldeo, Ohio to Dorothy May Briggs the daughter of Grant Charles and Cynthia (Tilton) Briggs. She was born September 9, 1912 in Duluth, Minnesota. They had 8 children

1. Barbara Mae Norris born April 17, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan. She died May 14, 1930 in Detroit and is buried at Riverside Cemetery, Plymouth, Michigan.
2. Alice Jane Norris born March 3, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan. She married to Richard Tomczak. She married a second time to Alex R. Guthrie. She died February 4, 1949. There is no additional information listed.
3. Charles Clifford Norris born August 29, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan. There is no additional information listed.
4. Phyliss Jean Norris born October 15, 1937 in Detroit Michigan. There is no additional information listed.
5. George Russell Norris born November 15, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan. There is no additional information listed.
6. Dorothy Marie Norris born November 18, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan. There is not other information listed.
7. Betty Ann Norris born April 13, 1944 in Highland Park, Michigan. There is no other information listed.
8. Robert Lee Norris born January 31, 1947 in Highland Park, Michigan. There is no other information listed.

4. Cecil Vern Norris born January 3, 1909 in Detroit, Michigan. He married September 2, 1933 in Angloa, Indiana to Ellen May Peterson, the daughter of Oscar and Sofia (Sundberg) Peterson. She was born December 13, 1908 in Leroy, Michigan. They had one child:

1. Carl Verne Norris born January 20, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan. There is no other information listed.

The second child of Silas and Florence Norris was:
2. Myrtle Elnetta Norris born March 7, 1875 in Redford, Michigan. She was married March 2, 1904 in Redford Township by Rev. E. G. Johnson to Robert Albert Grunow. Robert was the son of Karl Wilhelm and Augusta (Schlinkert) Grunow. He was born June 17, 1876 in Stettin, Pommerensdorf, Germany. He died March 7, 1952. Robert and Myrtle (Norris) Grunow had 3 children:

1. Eleanor Elizabeth Grunow born February 12, 1905 in Redford, Michigan
2. Robert Norris Grunow born September 23, 1907 in Redford, Michigan. He later married on March 15, 1932 in Rockville, Maryland to Madelon R Thompson, the daughter of John Robert and Margaret Elizabeth (Layton) Thompson. She was born November 26, 1913 in Raleigh, North Carolina ; and
3. Virgina Augusta Grunow who was born and died October 18, 1916 in Greenfield Township, Michigan. She is buried at the Grand Lawn Cemetery, Redford.

The third child of Silas and Florence(Chillson) Norris was
3. Harriet Adell Norris. She was born on April 5, 1881 in Redford, Michigan. She married December 26, 1900 in Redford by Judson D.Perry to Edwin Losey, the son of Sylester and Charlotte (Proctor) Losey. He was born June 16, 1879 in Dearborn, Michigan. They had five children:

1. Sylvester Silas Losey born January 19, 1902 in Dearborn, Michigan
2. Dorothy Leona Losey born September 14, 1903 in Dearborn, Michigan. She died December 20, 1912 in Detroit, Michigan and is buried at Grand Lawn Cemetery, Redford.
3. Dale Losey born October 4, 1905 in Dearborn Michigan
4. Florence Charlotte Losey born July 20, 1908 in Dearborn, Michigan
5. Gerald Edwin Losey born June 7, 1916 in Wayne, Michigan.

4. George Benjamin Norris, was the forth child of Silas & Florence Norris, born February 4, 1883, in Redford, Michigan. He was married to Anetta Anna McGlade on January 20, 1914 in Wyandotte, Michigan by Alexander Urquhart. Anettawas born November 9, 1883 in Wyandotte, Michigan and was the daughter of Felix and Mary (Sweet) McGlade. Annetta died June 26, 1941, and George died September 5, 1931. He drowned in the Detroit River and was buried at Grand Lawn Cemetery, Redford. They had one son :

Maurice George Norris born December 3, 1914 in Detroit, Michigan and died April 10, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan. He is also buried at Grand Lawn Cemetery.

5. Marjoria Estell Norris was the fifth child of Silas & Florence Norris. She was born March 8, 1898 in Redford, Michigan. She married September 8, 1920 in Detroit by Rev. George E. Gullen to Clarence Leonard Beavis. Clarence was the son of Charles Henry and Florence Helen (Tackabury) Beavis, and was born September 2, 1897 in Detroit, Michigan. Marjoria died October 12, 1948 and was buried at the Grand Lawn Cemtery. They had 3 children:

1. Ruth Louise Beavis who was born and died November 6, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan. She is buried at Grand Lawn Cemetery, Redford.
2. Leonard Charles Beavis born January 18, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan. There is no information on whether or not he has passed away.
3. Robert Wesley Beavis born March 23, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan. There is no information on whether or not he has passed away.

Marjoria (Norris) Beavis published a 78 page booklet of cemetery tombstone inscriptions for the Bell Branch Cemetery Redford, and Mount Hazel Cemetery on Lahser Road in Redford. She was a charter member and secretary for several years for the Detroit Society for Genealogical Research. She also belonged to the John Sackett Chapter, D.A.R., Descendants of Redford Pioneers, Ionic Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Ionic Ladies Association, Detroit Historical Society, and the New England Genealogical Society. She was a member of the Grace Methodist Church in Detroit and compiled a history of that parish in 1944.
