Peter and Mary lived in the woods, on a bluff overlooking Brown's Creek bottom, due
east of Gilmore's Chapel where Mary and her son William Cacy are buried. Peter is probably there too, but he does not have a marker.

According to the memoirs of James Wiseman Honnoll, son of Peter and Mary, their home beginning in February 1850 was located "about six miles south of Kossuth and six miles northwest of Rienzi." One wonders if they could hear the roar of the cannons during the battles at Shiloh and Corinth.
Shiloh, the name haunts history like morning mist drifting over Pittsburg Landing on the Tennessee River. Near here, General Grant, fresh from Fort Donelson, marshaled some 35,000 troops for a push toward the strategic railroad town of Corinth, Mississippi.  Confederate forces, about 40,000 strong, moved north to attach Grant's army before it could be reinforced. At dawn on Sunday 06 Apr 1862, the foes collided near Shiloh Church a few miles from the river, in a hail of flying metal that raged for two days. When echoes of the last shot faded away, almost 20,000 men had bloodied the ground at Shiloh.
