  -Parts Used---The leaves and flowers are the parts used medicinal***Fresh Mullein leaves are also used for the purpose of making a homoeopathic tincture.---
---Constituents---The leaves are nearly odourless and of a mucilaginous and bitterish taste.
 They contain gum as their principal constituent, together with 1 to 2 per cent of resin, divisible
into two parts, one soluble in ether, the other not; a readily soluble amaroid; a little tannin and
 a trace of volatile oil.---------
--------The flowers contain gum, resin, a yellow colouring principle, a green fatty matter
 (a sort of chlorophyll), a glucoside, an acrid, fatty matter; free acid and phosphoric acid;
 uncrystallizable sugar; some mineral salts, the bases of which are potassia and lime, and 
a small amount of yellowish volatile oil. They should yield not more than 6 per cent of ash.
 Their odour is peculiar and agreeable: their taste mucilaginous.------
---Medicinal Action and Uses---The Mullein has very markedly demulcent, emollient and astringent
 properties, which render it useful in pectoral complaints and bleeding of the lungs and bowels. 
The whole plant seems to possess slightly sedative and narcotic properties.----------
---------It is considered of much value in phthisis and other wasting diseases, palliating the cough and 
staying expectoration, consumptives appearing to benefit greatly by its use, being given in the 
form of an infusion, 1 OZ. of dried, or the corresponding quantity of fresh leaves being boiled for 
10 minutes in a pint of milk, and when strained, given warm, thrice daily, with or without sugar. The
 taste of the decoction is bland, mucilaginous and cordial, and forms a pleasant emollient and 
nutritious medicine for allaying a cough, or removing the pain and irritation of haemorrhoids. 
A plain infusion of 1 OZ. to a pint of boiling water can also be employed, taken in wineglassful 
doses frequently.
--------------The dried leaves are sometimes smoked in an ordinary tobacco pipe to relieve the irritation
 of the respiratory mucus membranes, and will completely control, it is said, the hacking 
cough of consumption. They can be employed with equal benefit when made into cigarettes, (ONLY TWO-2 PER DAY.)
for asthma and spasmodic coughs in general.
------Fomentations and poultices of the leaves have been found
serviceable in haemorrhoidal complaints.
Mullein is said to be of much value in diarrhoea, from its combination of demulcent
 with astringent properties, by this combination strengthening the bowels at the same 
time. In diarrhcea the ordinary infusion is generally given, but when any bleeding of 
the bowels is present, the decoction prepared with milk is recommended.

The Polynesians' primary voyaging craft was the double canoe made of two hulls connected by lashed crossbeams. The two hulls gave this craft stability and the capacity to carry heavy loads of migrating families and all their supplies and equipment, while a central platform laid over the crossbeams provided the needed working, living, and storage space. Sails made of matting drove this ancient forerunner of the modern catamaran swiftly through the seas, and long steering paddles enabled Polynesian mariners to keep it sailing on course.A medium-size voyaging canoe 50 to 60 feet long could accomodate two dozen or so migrants,their food supplies, livestock, and planting materials.   To the right, is the decending passage entrance, at the exterior of the Great Pyramid.

 The Meaning of the Stupa  

The reliquary stupa represents the mind (dharmakaya) of the Buddha. Symbolically the stupa embodies a complex range of iconographic meanings, with each of its components representing a specific aspect of the path to enlightenment. The base of the stupa is fashioned in the form of a many-stepped square throne or plinth, known as a “lion throne”. Above this ascend the stupa’s hemispherical dome; a square reliquary chamber or harmika; an upper spire composed of up to 13 umbrella wheels, and a crowning finial of a lotus umbrella, crescent moon, sun disc and dissolving flame.

Chapter I -- How Long Can We Last?

I stood on the Great Wall of China high on a hill near the borders of Mongolia. Below me in the valley, standing up square and high, was a wall that had once surrounded a city. Of the city, only a few mud houses remained, scarcely enough to lead one's mind back to the time when people and household industry teemed within the protecting wall.

The slope below the Great Wall was cut with gullies, some of which were fifty feet deep. As far as the eye could see were gullies, gullies, gullies -- a gashed and gutted countryside. The little stream that once ran past the city was now a wide waste of coarse sand and gravel which the hillside gullies were bringing down faster than the little stream had been able to carry them away. Hence, the whole valley, once good farm land, had become a desert of sand and gravel, alternately wet and dry, always fruitless. It was even more worthless than the hills. Its sole harvest now is dust, picked up by the bitter winds of winter that rip across its dry surface in this land of rainy summers and dry winters.

Beside me was a tree, one lone tree. That tree was locally famous because it was the only tree anywhere in that vicinity; yet its presence proved that once there had been a forest over most of that land -- now treeless and waste.

The farmers of a past generation had cleared the forest. They had plowed the sloping land and dotted it with hamlets. Many workers had been busy with flocks and teams, going to and fro among the shocks of grain. Each village was marked by columns of smoke rising from the fires that cooked the simple fare of these sons of Genghis Khan. Year by year the rain has washed away the loosened soil. Now the plow comes not -- only the shepherd is here, with his sheep and goats, nibblers of last vestiges. These four-footed vultures pick the bones of dead cultures in all continents. Will they do it to ours? The hamlets in my valley below the Great Wall are shriveled or gone. Only gullies remain -- a wide and sickening expanse of gullies, more sickening to look upon than the ruins of fire. You can rebuild after a fire.

               Stromatolites and their close cousins the thrombolites, are rock-like buildups of microbial mats that form in limestone- or dolostone-forming environments. Together with oncoids (formerly called "algal biscuits" or "Girvanella"), they typically form by the baffling, trapping, and precipitation of particles by communities of microorganisms such as bacteria and algae. In some cases, they can form inorganically, for example when seawaters are oversaturated with certains chemicals resulting in precipitation. Stromatolites are defined as laminated accretionary structures that have synoptic relief (i.e., they stick up above the seafloor). Stromatolite-building communities include the oldest known fossils, dating back some 3.5 billion years when the environments of Earth were too hostile to support life as we know it today. We can presume that the microbial communities consisted of complex consortia of species with diverse metabolic needs, and that competition for resources and differing motility among them created the intricate structures we

observe in these ancient fossils. In a far-off galaxy, 12.4 billion light-years from Earth, a ravenous black hole is devouring galactic grub. Its feeding frenzy produces so much energy, it stirs up gas across its entire galaxy."It is like a pot of boiling water being heated up by a nuclear reactor in the center," said Tanio Diaz-Santos of the Universidad Diego Portales in Santiago, Chile, lead author of a new study about this galaxy.This galaxy, called W2246-0526, is the most luminous galaxy known, according to research published in 2015, based on data from NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE). That means that it has the highest power output of any galaxy in the universe, and would appear to shine the brightest if all galaxies were at the same distance from us.   The new study, published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters, reveals that this galaxy is also expelling tremendously turbulent gas -- a phenomenon never seen before in an object of this kind."This galaxy is tearing itself apart," said Roberto Assef, astronomer with the Universidad Diego Portales and leader of the observing team at the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile. "The momentum and energy of the particles of light deposited in the gas are so great that they are pushing the gas out in all directions."

Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.  

Article 3.Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.

Article 8. Everyone has the right to an effective remedy by the competent national tribunals for acts violating the fundamental rights granted him by the constitution or by law.  

Article 9. No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.  

Article 10. Everyone is entitled in full equality to a fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal, in the determination of his rights and obligations and of any criminal charge against him.  

Article 11.(1) Everyone charged with a penal offence has the right to be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law in a public trial at which he has had all the guarantees necessary for his defence.  

(2) No one shall be held guilty of any penal offence on account of any act or omission which did not constitute a penal offence, under national or international law, at the time when it was committed. Nor shall a heavier penalty be imposed than the one that was applicable at the time the penal offence was committed.  

Article 12. No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks.  

Article 13.(1) Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each state.  

(2) Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country.  

Article 14. (1) Everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution.  

(2) This right may not be invoked in the case of prosecutions genuinely arising from non-political crimes or from acts contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations.  

Article 15. (1) Everyone has the right to a nationality.  

(2) No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his nationality nor denied the right to change his nationality. Article 16.  

(1) Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution.  

(2) Marriage shall be entered into only with the free and full consent of the intending spouses.  

(3) The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State.  

Article 17.(1) Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others.  

(2) No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property.  

Article 18. Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.  

Article 19. Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and _expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.  

Article 20. (1) Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association.  

(2) No one may be compelled to belong to an association.

Article 23. (1) Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favourable conditions of work and to protection against unemployment.  

(2) Everyone, without any discrimination, has the right to equal pay for equal work.  

(3) Everyone who works has the right to just and favourable remuneration ensuring for himself and his family an existence worthy of human dignity, and supplemented, if necessary, by other means of social protection.  

(4) Everyone has the right to form and to join trade unions for the protection of his interests.  

Article 24. Everyone has the right to rest and leisure, including reasonable limitation of working hours and periodic holidays with pay.  

Article 25. (1) Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.  

(2) Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance. All children, whether born in or out of wedlock, shall enjoy the same social protection.  

Article 26. (1) Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory.
