JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS
Self-Titled Debut
Capitol ST 665
Released 1971?
Here is the soundtrack to the TV series from Hanna-Barbera.  Unlike the albums from The Archies, they have a couple of cover tunes on this album, which are "I'll Be There" which of course was made famous by the Jackson 5, and "(They Long To Be) Close To You" the Carpenters' hit.  Future Charlie's Angel Cheryl Ladd (under the name Cheryl Moor) is the singing voice of Melody, as she is the blond pictured on the cover.

WEBMASTER'S NOTE:  Another theory.  I just got this album on CD today via eBay (10/27/2003) and the songs sound like they were done at Motown (Never mind the fact that J&PC covered "I'll Be There") but was released by Capitol.  Until I get more info on the band, I think Capitol might have "borrowed" the Funk Brothers from Motown for this album.  Here's why.  Listen to the songs "Stop, Look, And Listen" and "You've Come A Long Way Baby."  They sound like songs that The Jackson 5 would have recorded.  First, "Stop, Look, And Listen" eerily sounds like "ABC" and "Long Way" sounds like it was inspired by J5's "Mama's Pearl."
One more thing; unlike any of the recordings from The Archies (with the lone exception of the "Stranger's In The Morning" single), the J&PC album had horn and string arrangements on it.  And it had a more funky and soulful sound than one entire Archies album (Not to say that The Archies didn't have soul; listen to "Get On The Line" from
Jingle Jangle to see what I mean).
