Jet from giant elliptical galaxy M87

Jet from giant elliptical galaxy M87
Giant elliptical galaxy M87 features a luminous jet emerging from a massive black hole in its center. The jet is being hurled outwards along the axis of the highly energetic gas swirling around the black hole.
The result is a 5000 light-year long blowtorch where electrons are ejected outward at near light-speed.
Some details of the jet are visible in this image, which corresponds well to recent high resolution images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope.
