For years I had wandered without a true friend,
Never dreaming that I was nearing the end,
A sinner traveling a long lonesome road,
Tired and weary weighed down with a load,
Although I was traveling I did not know
That my journey was ending with no place to go.
Then Jesus found me all weary and lone,
With all loving kindness took me for His own,
I rejoice on my journey while still here below,
For Jesus is with me, and I've some place to go,
I traveled along in sin and in shame,
The longer I wandered the worse I became,
I drank, and I gambled; broke laws that were plain,
Sinned against heaven, took the Lord's name in vain,
I had companions, who seemed not to care,
'Tho a fast pace we traveled, we were going nowhere,
I turned from the old ways, started out on the new,
For I've found a Friend Who to me has been true.
My old friends forsook me at last when they found
I was on a new road that is heavenward bound,
And here with my new friends, I will now declare,
We're traveling together, and we're going somewhere.
