Nail is the guardian of the Namekian ruler Guru. He protected Guru from Frieza when Frieza was taking over Namek. Guru was also dieing because his people were dieing too. Also, if Guru was to perish, the Dragonballs of Namek would perish as well, that is why it was so important that Nail guard him. Nail was trained in the ancient arts of the Namekian Warriors and was the most powerful Namekian on Planet Namek. He fought with Frieza, but did not die. He fused with Piccolo to make him powerful enough to beat Frieza's 1st and 2nd forms.
