People often wondered if this three-eyed warrior was even human like Krillin or Yamcha. He is.Tien and Chaosu were the first ones to learn to fly by use of their chi. Chausu is Tien's long-time friend and partner. Tien was the one of the greatest students of Tsurusennin, Master Roshi's rival and foe.
Tsurusennin entered Tien and Chaosu in the 22nd Tenka-ichibudokai. Tsurusennin was so into them winning that he even wanted them to murder Goku. Tien betrayed his master because he admired Goku's power and wanted to fight fair. He fought Goku in a great battle, and Tien came out victorious.
After the battle, Tien became Goku's ally. He even helped Goku when Piccolo came. Tien defeated his most powerful demon, but Piccolo was too powerful.
At the 23nd Tenka-ichibudokai arrived, Tien fought Goku in a rematch, but this time Goku was the winner of the battle. Tien still fought as Goku's ally and admired his power. Then Tien prepared for the coming of Saiyans, Nappa and Vegeta.
He began training with the great Kami at his Lookout with Krillin, Yamcha, Chaosu, and Yajirobe. While he was training with Kami, everyone except for Yajirobe went into the Pendalum Room and fought some Saiyans from 100 years ago. They fought valiently, but lost to the more stronger Saiyans. After Tien and the others fought in the battle with the past Saiyans, their lives changed because they found out that the Saiyans were really strong.
When the Saiyans finally arrived, Tien was the first person to fight a Saibaman. Tien won against the creature, but died fighting Nappa, who was stronger that the three-eyed man.
When Tien died, Chausu, Piccolo, and Yamcha died too. The four went on a journey to Snake Way to King Kai's planet. They all arrived safely and began training with the master. They trained hard, and along the way fought the dead Ginyu Force. Finally, Tien and the others were wished back to Earth by Bulma, Krillin, Gohan, and some others.
