South Korea has a popular street food, tteokbokki. In the form of tteok (rice cake) cooked with gochujjang, gochugaru, garlic, anchovy broth, and others.

Tteokbokki has a chewy texture and tends to be spicy. Usually tteokbokki is sold by street vendors in traditional market areas, tourist attractions, and stations.

Here are 5 ways to eat tteokbokki Korean style:

1. Use Twigim (Fried)

Apart from selling tteokbokki, usually the sellers also offer other menus. Another menu is twigim or fried. Twigim offered is also very diverse.

Such as ghimari (vermicelli wrapped in seaweed), yachae twigim (vegetables), ojingeo twigim (squid), goguma twigim (sweet potatoes), and others. This twigim is usually priced at 800-1000 won (around Rp.10 thousand).

Tteokbokki will taste even more delicious if you add twigim. Twigim can be soaked in tteokbokki sauce or just dipped it.

2. Use Odeng

Odeng is eomuk (fish cake) boiled using a fresh, savory broth. This fish cake is also a popular Korean snack and is usually offered with tteokbokki.

Why do you have to use odeng when you eat tteokbokki? Because odeng is served with sauce. This broth is considered to be able to neutralize the spicy taste of tteokbokki.
