1st Step

Complete Manual Removal of 2000 Toolbox

Backup the Registry IMPORTANT: Before beginning to remove 2000 Toolbox manually from your computer make sure to backup the Registry. This will safeguard your Windows 95 or Windows 98 installation. You can recover your Windows 95 or Windows 98 configuration by restoring the backup if something goes wrong.

1. Click on the Start button.
2. Click on Run.
3. Type in REGEDIT then click the OK button.
The Registry Editor will then appear.
4. Click on the Registry pull-down menu then click on Export Registry File.
5. The Export Registry File dialog box will then appear.
The top of this dialog box contains an option entitled Save In. Make sure Desktop is selected for the Save In option. If it is not, click the pull-down arrow and select Desktop from the menu.
6. In the File Name field type "Backup" (without the quotation marks).
7. In the Export Range group box make sure All is selected. 8. Click on the Save button. You have now created a backup of your registry.
9. Close the Registry Editor by clicking the X in the top right corner.
NOTE: If you need to restore the registry you can double-click on the backup file you created and it will be restored. The backup file will be located on your desktop. Once you have finished these instructions and are certain everything is working properly it is important to delete the "backup" file you created. Do this by right-clicking on the Backup file on the desktop then left-clicking on Delete from the pop-up menu that appears. This will ensure that the old registry is not accidentally restored once this process is complete.

Delete the Registry Keys

NOTE: The following steps may be more easily followed if you close and reopen the Registry Editor between each step. To close the Registry Editor click the X in the top right corner of the Registry Editor window. To reopen the Registry Editor follow steps 1 - 3 in the "Backup the Registry" section above.

1. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Network Associates\ and delete the 2000 Toolbox entry:
a. Double-click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
b. Double-click on Software.
c. Double-click on Network Associates.
d. Single-click on 2000 Toolbox so it is highlighted.
e. Press the Delete key on the keyboard to remove this entry.
2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall and delete the 2000 Toolbox entry.
a. Double-click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
b. Double-click on Software.
c. Double-click on Microsoft.
d. Double-click on Windows.
e. Double-click on CurrentVersion.
f. Double-click on Uninstall.
g. Single-click on 2000 Toolbox so it is highlighted then press the Delete key on the keyboard to remove this entry.
3. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths and delete the checkup.exe entry.
a. Double-click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
b. Double-click on Software.
c. Double-click on Microsoft.
d. Double-click on Windows.
e. Double-click on CurrentVersion.
f. Double-click on App Paths
g. Single-click on checkup.exe so it is highlighted then press the Delete key on the keyboard to remove this entry.

4. Close the registry editor by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Remove the Program Files

1. Double-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop.
2. Double-click on the C: drive.
3. Double-click on the Program Files folder.
4. Double-click on the Network Associates folder.
5. Single-click on the 2000 Toolbox folder so it is highlighted.
6. Press the Delete key on the keyboard to remove this folder. Answer Yes to any questions about deleting specific files or programs.
7. Close all open windows until you are back on the desktop.

Remove the Entries from the Start Menu

1. Click on the Start button.
2. Highlight Settings then click on Taskbar & Start Menu.
The Taskbar Properties dialog box will then appear.
3. Click on the Start Menu Programs tab.
4. Click on the Remove button. A list of folders will then appear.
5. Scroll through the list and locate the 2000 Toolbox folder. Single-click on it so it is highlighted.
6. Click the Remove button to remove this folder.
7. Locate the StartUp folder on the list and click on the plus sign (+) next to it. This should open the StartUp folder so you can view the items within it.
8. If Image & Restore is located in the StartUp folder single-click on it so it is highlighted then click the Remove button.
9. Click the Close button followed by the OK button.
10. Restart the computer.
Remember to delete the backup of the registry file located on your desktop once you are sure everything is working correctly.

2000 Toolbox is now completely removed from your computer.

Reinstalling 2000 Toolbox in Safe Mode

Copy the 2000 Toolbox Program Folder to the Desktop

1. Insert the 2000 Toolbox CD.
2. When the setup program appears click "browse CD". A Windows Explorer screen will then appear. (If the setup program does not appear then double-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop, then right-click on the CD-ROM drive, then left-click on Explore.)
3. Locate the 2000 Toolbox folder. It will be named something similar to "2000 TB" or "Y2K". (it varies on different CDs)
4. Left-click on the name of the folder to highlight it.
5. At the top of this screen click on the Edit pull-down menu, then click on Copy. The computer will appear to not do anything.
6. Close or minimize the open windows until you can see your desktop.
7. Right-click on any empty spot on the desktop. A pop-up menu will appear.
8. Left-click on Paste.
9. The 2000 Toolbox folder will then automatically copy from the CD to the desktop. If it does not, or if the Paste option is grayed out, then you will need to repeat the above steps.

Boot into Safe Mode

1. Shut the computer down so the power is off.
2. Wait 20 seconds or so.
3. Turn the computer on and immediately begin pressing the F8 key on the keyboard once every second repeatedly. Do this until the Windows Startup Menu appears. If you get a keyboard error, press F1 to resume and then continue pressing the F8 key once every second.
4. Select option #3 (Safe Mode) from the Windows Startup Menu, then press the Enter key on the keyboard.
5. Windows will then boot into Safe Mode. NOTE: This may take longer than a normal boot.
6. At the end of the boot process a dialog box will appear informing you that Windows is in Safe Mode. Click OK on this dialog box.

7. Windows is now in Safe Mode.

Performing a Clean Installation

1. Locate the 2000 Toolbox folder on the desktop and double-click on it to open it.
2. Locate setup.exe (may also appear as just "setup") and double-click on it. The setup.exe icon should look like an open box in front of a computer.
3. The installation wizard will then run and guide you through the rest of the setup process.
4. When the installation is complete click on the Start button, then click on Shut Down. Select the Restart option and click OK (or Yes).
5. Let the computer boot normally. It will automatically boot back into normal Windows. The clean installation of 2000 Toolbox is now complete.
6. Once Windows is finished loading, the 2000 Toolbox folder on the desktop (the one copied from the CD) may be deleted by right-clicking on the folder then left-clicking on Delete.
