The Terrex AV81 AIFVMP was designed by Timoney Technology Limited for Singapore Technology Kenetics and was first shown at the Defence Systems & Equipment International (DSEi) Exhibition in 2001 and subsequintly in Singapore, Paris and at Larkhill in the UK. The first prototype was built by Timoney in Ireland, where it underwent initial trials, followed by trials in Britain, these were completed in late 200. Subsequently, it was shipped to Singapore for evaluation. A decision to build two further vehicles was made by Singapore Technology Kinetics and these are expected to be completed in mid-2003. Of the two vehicles, one is been built to a configuration aimed at the Turkish armed forces, while the other is being built to a configuration suitable for a possible Belgian requirement. It contains a number of unique and interesting features including, a replaceable roof which allows a quick change of roles in the field and a unique turnable hatch for the driver. The second prototype of the Terrex (Yavuz), the AV82, has been completed by the Turkish company Otokar. The vehicle incorporates a number of changes to the hull and rear suspension. |
