It was originally believed that the Vickers Mark 11 was a 6x6 development of the Valkyr still retaining the Timoney Suspension system and portions of the hull however, latest information indicates that the original prototype was actually a development of the Timoney Mk 8 with a Valkyr FSV front. It is believed that this vehicle was actually manufactured in Ireland by Timoney (Jane's Armour and Artillery 1995-96). Therefore the illustrations are actually the second prototype, believed to have been built by Vickers. It was armed with a 105mm anti-tank gun and could accomodate a squad of troops. Designed for long range patrol mission it was reportedly comfortable due to it's independent suspension system. It was one of the defeated vehicles in the Australian Project Bushranger competition, subsequently won by the ADI Bushmaster (Timoney MP44). Having failed to gain export orders and with Vickers acquisition of Reumech to form Vickers OMC (now Alvis OMC) plans to produce the Mark 11 were shelved and the Mark 11 above was sold to a collector. The faith of the original prototype is unknown at this time. |
