Bahrain

10 km from Madyan lies Bahrain. At 1400 meters height, it is more cultured but some explorers may stumble on some important archaeological find. High up on a cliff in Jahanabad, some 13 km from Bahrain, scattered rock carvings are to be seen. Beyond Bahrain is Kohistan.

26 km from Bahrain lies Kalam, which is 2100 meters high. As the architecture of the old Masjid and the engravings on the wooden pillars show, Kohistan or Upper Swat has strong cultural affinity with the Northern region. Kalam has an arresting placid atmosphere and is in a region, which is a boundary, marking changes in culture between south and north. The 6257-meter high Mt. Falaksher can be clearly seen from the upper section of Kalam town

Valleys of Ushu, Utrot and Gabral:

In fact the most beautiful part of Swat is beyond Kalam and the valleys of Ushu. Utrot and Gabral are worth exploring. There is good brown trout fishing around Utrot. At present foreigners are not allowed to go beyond Kalam. Even if the restrictions are relaxed, foreign tourists are advised to contact the local police authorities at Kalam before proceeding to the valleys of Ushu Utrot and Gabral.
