Harappa

To reach Harappa you have to turn left off the main road 22 km before Sahiwal at Harappa railway station Cross the level crossing and follow the road for about 7 km. Harappa was about the same size as Moenjodaro 550 km to the south. They are the 2 largest of the excavated Indus civilization cities and have been called twin capitals. Moenjodaro is more exciting to visit but at Harappa there is a good museum and you can explore the confused ruins of the citadel and defensive wall.

Together with Moenjodaro and an unknown number of towns in the Indus Valley, Harappa flourished in the 3rd millenium BC. Relics of a citadel, drains, granaries brick, kilns and fortifications can be discerned. Each grave so far excavated has yielded many objects, which with personal articles, toys and weights, are exhibited in the small local museum. Air travelers who intend to visit Moenjodaro could miss Harappa, but it is a natural halt for people traveling by road from Lahore to Multan.

Chak Purbane Sival:

13 Miles south of Harappa contains a mound. Pottery and other articles found show that here was a town contemporary to Harappa.
