Shabbaz Garhi

The name is derived from the shrine of the Saint Shahbaz Kalander who died towards the end of the 15th century. It has been identified with the ancient Vershapura, an important city on the main highway from Kabui to India. Visited by Hieun Tsiang, who referred to it as Po-Lu-sha, which was at that time a fortified city according to local traditions. The inscriptions here refer to a golden house buried beneath the hills. It was the seat of one of the most celebrated of the Buddhists Jatakas according to which in one of his previous births Buddha gave his wife and children in charity here.
