Kohistan was the old name of upper Swat at Madyan, the Valley becomes slightly steeper but it is very picturesque. Situated 1320 meters above sea level, Madyan is a charming town. It has beauty and a variety of accommodations available on the slope of the valley, along the streams and high up in the mountains. Pleasant hikes up the mountain and along the stream are possible here. This is in fact considered the most beautiful valley in Swat. The road along the Swat River is somewhat on the smoother side along the road, a branch lane west to Kabal leads to an 18-hole golf course at 870 meters. A little further, another road cuts east to Malam Jabba, 2600 meters above sea level.
