Camp Souvenirs

Souvenirs of camp can easily be made and can be treasured by the girls for years to come.  Here are a few ideas from us about things we have made.  If you have any more ideas, why not email us?

Super Spoons

A decorated wooden spoon can make an attractive wall hanging and a great present.  Glue a selection of paste, kidney beans and other pulses to the bowl of the spoon.  When the glue is set, varnish the decoration.   Add the finishing touches by writing the name of the camp, the date or the venue on the handle with felt tipped pens.

Kool Key rings

Key rings are easy to make and you can make them in a variety of ways.  In the past, we have sewn onto binca and attached a key ring holder to the end.  We have also bought key ring packs (Baker Ross is a good company) and let the girls design their own.  Some of them even put flowers and leaves inside the key ring.

Jazzy Jars

Clean glass jars can be recycled into useful storage containers by decorating them with glass paints.  Drawn an outline of a picture onto the glass using permanent marker, or stick a picture inside the jar and trace it through the glass.   Then fill in the design using the paints.  You could even decorate the lid of the jar.   Don't forget to write the name of the camp, date or venue somewhere on the jar.   You could always do it in the lid of the jar.

Painted Plates

Design a plate using a plain ceramic plate and special china paint.  If you look around, you can buy special paint that can be fired in a conventional oven.  Write the name of the camp, the date or the venue on the back of the plate.

Camp Pennants

Using scraps of material and felt, why not make a pennant that can either be hung up or sewn on a camp blanket.  Sew the date and year onto the pennant and then sew things on it that remind you of camp.  Maybe it rained all week and you want to show a black cloud.  Or maybe you went canoeing and want to sew a boat.

Camp Log

Produce a camp log, where each patrol contributes to it.   As a starting point, give the girls some specific activities for their log.   These could include composing a song about their camp, completing a limerick or writing prayers to read during camp.  Make a decorative cover for the log.  Why not press some leaves or flowers?
