Boxing Clever

Follow the instructions below to make a great gift box.   The first attempt should take you about 1/2 an hour.  But the more you make, the quicker you will be at making them.  You will need card; scissors; pencil and ruler

Draw a square then use your ruler to draw in the diagonals.   See Figure A

Carefully fold each corner of the square to the centre.   See Figure B

Twist the card round so that it is in the position shown in Figure C

Unfold the top and bottom corners as in Figure D.

Now fold the outside edges P and Q to the centre.  See Figure E.

Unfold edges P and Q again so that your card looks like the one in Figure D once more.

Cut slits along the creases at each of the points marked in Figure F.  Each cut should be about 4cm long.

Fold up edges Q and P as in Figure G to form two sides of the box.

Push inwards the flaps W, X, Y and Z as in Figure H.   These form the other two sides of the box.  Glue W to X and Y to Z to make the box stronger.

Your box should now look like Figure I.   The last thing to do is fold the remaining large flaps, S and T into the bottom of the box as in Figure J.

How to make the box

Why not make a lid for the box.  Make it in exactly the same way as the box but a little larger.
