| Allen Ludden entered the hospital for tests, so Bill Cullen stepped in for him in April of 1980. Allen returned in mid-May. |

| In October of 1980, Allen left the show permanently following a massive stroke. Tom Kennedy took over from then on right until the 1982 finale. |

| One little change to the set was the puzzles now being printed on cards as opposed to perjected on a slide. Look closely, and you'll see an outline around the words. Eventually, the format was changed to a winning score of $500 and a growing "Alphabetics" jackpot. |
