Flying Without Wings |
Shane played with the buttons of the radio for a while. Suddenly he heard a soft melody and withdrew his hand. He fell back in his car seat and closed his eyes. He was scared and had no idea what to do. Everybody's looking for a something One thing that makes it all complete You'll find it in the strangest places Places you never knew it could be A lonely tear slid down his face. He had found the thing that completed him but instead of treasuring it he had lost it again. It sounded so clich but he didn't realise what he had until it was gone. And now he was sitting in his car. He shouldn't be here. He should be with the woman he loved. Some find it in the face of their children Some find it in their lover's eyes Who can deny the joy it brings When you've found that special thing You're flying without wings She could make his heart do funny things with just one smile. She could make his sense go wild with just one touch. And he broke her heart with one sentence. 'I'm not ready to commit my self.' Shane mumbled. If he could turn back time he would stop himself form being so foolish. If he could he would make thing the way they used to be Some find it sharing every morning Some in their solitary lives You'll find it in the words of others A simple line can make you laugh or cry Tears were now streaming down his face. He looked up. In a blur he saw the white church. She was there now marrying someone who was willing to commit himself. Why did he have to be so stupid? Why couldn't he say I do to her? He closed his eyes again. He could almost smell her. He could feel her touch him. God, he could almost see them make love again like they used to. Slow and passionate till dawn or hard and quick in between things. Or naughty with silk scarves or at places they could get caught. Her smiles, her eyes, herself. You'll find it in the deepest friendship The kind you cherish all your life And when you know how much it means You've found that special thing You're flying without wings Shane felt calm. He wiped away his tears. He reached out and turned the volume up. So, impossible as it may seem You've got to fight for every dream Cos who's to know which one you let go Would have made you complete 'That's it.' He yelled. He opened his car door. The fresh summer breeze cooled down his flushed cheeks. He was going to fight. He was not letting her go like that. If he ever wanted to feel alive again he had only one thing to do. Well, for me it's waking up beside you To watch the sunrise on your face To know that I can say I love you In any given time or place Shane sighed. It was a deep sigh. The thing he was about to do could ruin his life forever. Or could mean totally happiness till his dying day. He took a deep breath. He got out of the car and started walking with unsteady steps. One foot in front of the other. His goal came closer. His heart was almost pounding out of his chest. It's little things that only I know Those are the things that make you mine And it's like flying without wings Cos you're my special thing I'm flying without He pushed the door open. The priest was still talking. 'Stop.' Shane shouted. Everyone looked surprised. Everyone except the woman dressed in white standing at the altar. 'Harriet, please. I'm sorry.' Harriet raised an eyebrow. 'You make me fly without wings.' Shane had a pleading look in his eyes. 'You are the one thing that makes me complete. I love you.' And in this place I long to be You'll be where it ends I'm flying without wings And that's the joy you bring I'm flying without wings Shane closed his eyes. He was afraid of her answer. Her scent was tickling his nose. 'Open your eyes, Shane.' Harriet said in a soft voice. Slowly he revealed his green eyes again. 'You make me fly too. And I don't need wings. I just need you to complete me.' Shane pulled her close. 'I do. I will.' He kissed her. 'Ready for take off?' Harriet smiled. 'Take me anywhere you want as long as you are there.' |
