Class Description
The class is compromised of seventeen 6th graders and one 7th grader.  Half of this class had instruments at the beginning of the year and the other half several weeks after that.  The social status of these students range from upper middle class to lower middle class.  Some of the students are also classified as ADHD and/or with LD (Learning Disabled).  Some others in the class are also clasified as "Gifted".  There is one ESL student in the class.
Standards Addressed
Goal:  To become better acquainted with rhythmic patterns, introduction of melody and harmony, and the concept of tempo.
Standard 1)  Learn and develop the essential skills and technical demands unique to dance, music, theater, and visual arts.
a.  Improvise, compose, and/or arrange, simple rhythmic and harmonic accompaniments.
c.  Explore complex combinationsof beat and rhythmic patterns through movement.
Goal:  To become better aware of different styles of music and be introduced to performing.
Standard 8)  Contribute to communities by sharing expertise in dance, music, theater, and visual arts and by participating in the activities of cultural institutions.
a.  Participate in appropriate programs in the school and in the community.
b.  Attend appropriate musical events.
