KQ5 was released in 1990 as a floppy, then later in 1991 on CD. KQ5 was the first King's Quest game to feature a point and click interface. Up until this point all King's Quest games had been typing games. In my personal opinion this was a major improvement.

It's mere hours after Rosella returned to Daventry with the fruit to cure her father, when we find the aging King on a stroll through the forest. He's as happy and content as a guy can get, when he returns to the Castle of Daventry, only to discover that his castle and family have been stolen by the evil wizard Mordack. A nearby owl, Cedrick, tells Graham that his master might know where he can find Mordack and the two fly off, (yes, I DO mean fly!) on another adventure. As Graham travels the desert, the mountains and the sea to find his family, he learns that Mordack is infact Manannan's brother, who has captured Alexander, to force him into changing Manannan back to his original form. Graham finally reaches Mordack's Island where he finds the kind and gentle Cassima, who helps him to escape Mordack's dungeon and eventually falls in love with Alexander. Graham distroys Mordack, saving his family and freeing Cassima, to return to her home on the Land Of The Green Isles, where Alexander later goes to find her, but that, is another story.
