The Savoie family is descended from one of the Acadian pioneers Fanois Savoye who was listed in the 1671 census for Port Royal, Acadia as 50 years old with his wife Catherine Lejeune, 38; children 9: One married girl; Franoise 18, unmarried; Germain 16, Marie 14, Jeanne 13, Catherine 9, Franois 8, Barnabe 6, Andre 4, Marie 2; 4 horned beasts and 10 arpent of farm land. The family thrived and most of their descendants eventually left Acadia to avoid deportation by the British during the middle of the 18th century. They are now found all over North American and all over the world.
The maternal side (Gagn) of our family is also descended from a pioneer family but from New France as the area around the province of Qubec was known during the 17th century. Our first ancester Pierre Gasnier, his wife Marguerite Rose, 2 sons and a newborn daughter followed his younger brother Louis to New France in 1653. Louis and his wife had arrived in 1643 with one child. Our family is descended from a branch of the family which became known as Gagn-Bellavance.
