JMT 682

J 7682

Still largely original and retaining the same blinds it entered service with nearly thirty years earlier (there was a route number indicator above the rear window as well), the intention of the owner at the time was eventually to restore 682 to 1968 condition who revealed he had also owned sister bus 681 having dismantled it for spare parts. While a lick of paint and the replacement of a few bits and pieces such as windows and panels would have been all the bus needed, unfortunately it was not to be and was offered for sale soon after the photo. It would appear that nobody in Jersey is really interested in bus preservation, the lack of land available for the storage of big vehicles probably being one reason. The author would have been interested, but being only 17 years old at the time and quite incapable of storing the bus securely, was not in a position to assume ownership. The engine was removed from J 7682 and, otherwise mainly intact, it was sadly towed away to the Bellozanne scrapyard in February 1997, the lack of space there meaning that it was broken up the same day. 683 was withdrawn and scrapped when relatively young in the mid-1970s, so none now survive, even if the "Seddon Diesel" grille badge from 682 does - on the wall of my garage.
