In 2004 I made the mistake of planting these in an area exposed to the wind. The winter was not kind to them. (This is a new one.)  I have transplanted them to a more sheltered location, and they are recovering well, albeit as smaller plants.
-New foliage is bright red, turning to green
-Both leaves and flower buds stay on the plant during winter and are prone to dessication. Keep it out of cold, dry winds or it could end up like this:
But in that case, it could contain the beginnings of an interesting (but unconventional) bonsai:
