I did a census study of the Whites of Craven County in 1850, 1860, 1870,
1880 and 1900 and put the families together. Here is what I found.
William White born around 1820, died before 1900, married Sarah
B. Carlton on 15 July 1842. She was born in January 1821. They lived in
the Russell District which became Township 9
Their children
1. Edward White born about 1843
2. James W. White born about 1845
3. Nancy S. White born about 1850
4. Mary E. White born about 1853
5. William W. White born about 1855 or 56
6. Sarah E. White born about 1857 to 59

Edward White married Louisa Catherine sometime around 1864. She
was born in January 1842. They lived in Township 9
Their children
1. William White born about 1865
2. Jane born about 1867
3. Whichcoat born about 1869
4. Jackson White born about 1870
5. Sarah White born about 1873
6. Hardy White born about 1875
7. Victoria White born about 1877

I don't know who William White's parents were. Does anyone have
any thing else to add?

William White age 29 Farmer $1,000 real estate Sarah 27 [could be Sarah Carlton] Elizabeth 40 [ could be William's mother] Hardy 14 [could be William's brother] Edward 6 [could be your Edward J. White b: 1843] James 5 Richard 17 Farmer [could be William's brother] Was thinking that the Elizabeth age 40 could have been William White's mother. Richard who is 17 could be his brother. Now next door in Household 1734 is Sarah A. Carlton age 80 I found also a marriage for a William White to Sarah Carlton on July 15, 1842 in Craven Co. Maybe this is the same Wm. & Sarah listed above in household 1735 at ages 29 & 27, and Sarah A. Carlton age 80 is Sarah's mother. The child who is 6 yrs old listed as Wm. & Sarah's son could be your Edward J. White. I checked all the Lenoir and Craven listings for the 1850 census and the only other Edward White listed was: Household # 926 census page 324 Oct. 15, 1850 James White 44 Lilly 41 Henry 19 Charles 17 Mary 15 Edward 10 Martha 8 George W. 6 Clease?y 2 * female *marked Twins Susan 2 *

William White, 51, Farmer, and Sarah B., 50, keeping house, had children Susan, 17, Mary E., 15, William W., 14, and Sarah E., 12.
Listed above him is Edward and Catherine White.

William married Sarah B. Carlton, daughter of Richard Carlton III and Sarah G. Griffin, on 15 Jul 1842 in Craven Co. (Sarah B. Carlton was born in Jan 1821 in possibly Craven Co. and died in 1906 in Greenville, NC.)
